This release improves ZIP output by allowing changing the template engine used for HTML templating from Templite to Mustache.
Calibre 9.2 has been released today as the second update to the latest Calibre 9.0 series of this powerful, free, open-source, and cross-platform ebook management software for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Windows.
Calibre 9.2 is here to improve ZIP output by allowing us to change the template engine used for HTML templating from Templite to Mustache for greater safety and performance, and adds a new option to the check library features to allow us to rebuild the annotations search index.
This release also improves the new Bookshelf view by avoiding rendering during initial display while the view is still being resized and fixing a blank Bookshelf view issue on some macOS systems. It also fixes a bug that prevented users from dragging and dropping ebooks into the Bookshelf view.
The E-book viewer has been improved as well in Calibre 9.2 by fixing a regression that broke the Go to page function, an issue with the PageUp and PageDown keys needing to be pressed repeatedly at internal HTML file boundaries in flow mode, and an issue with the Google dictionary lookup results not being legible.
Among other noteworthy changes, Calibre 9.2 improves the EPUB input to ensure font obfuscation processing happens only on files from the EPUB, as well as the CHM input by ignoring internal files that have paths that end up outside the container, preventing path traversal attacks from malicious EPUB or CHM files.
Last but not least, this release addresses a regression from Calibre 8.11 that broke the automatic cleanup of downloaded HTML files, a regression from Calibre 9.0 that caused the mouse wheel to scroll a full row at a time in the Cover grid, and a bug causing the Read Aloud feature in the E-book viewer to crash when stopped and restarted on Windows systems.
Check out the release notes for more details about the changes included in Calibre 9.2, which you can download as ready-to-use binaries for 64-bit and AArch64 (ARM64) Linux systems from the official website, along with binaries for macOS and Windows systems.
Update: Calibre 9.2.1 was released shortly after Calibre 9.2 to prevent the Content server from using template-based searches as it’s not secure to be used with un-authenticated users.
